Saipem CC secured a convincing 4 wickets win over Gulf CC

The winter continues……as Quida once said……”It is the north wind that lashes men into Vikings”

So is the story of Team Saipem playing Al Markab Main League 2016-17, the harshness of winter cold and an early lost turned them into Vikings. They march out playing drums and singing Vikings Sacrifice song a rush of blood that keeps them warm. Victory after victory, conquering every opposition in their path, one can only wonder how far Team Saipem would go this winter…….

This Friday Gulf CC were in opposition and batting first, Sarwar Khan spearheading Saipem bowling attack removed Irfan and Saddam early and left Gulf CC 57 for 2. A fifty run partnership between Zishan and Zahid took Gulf CC to a reasonable score of 108/2 before Abdul Rahiman know as “Rahiman The Calculator” for his precise calculations!! Calculated Zaid and Bilawal in a matter of four balls and all of a sudden Gulf CC were 108/4. Rahmian ran over Gulf CC middle order like a juggernaut claiming a 5 wicket hall in 7.5overs giving away 37runs only. Zishan from Gulf CC fought hard for his 68 off 67balls but was eventually removed by Sarwar who claimed 3 wickets for 57 in his 7 overs, whereas Akhtar claimed 2 for 23 in his 5 overs. Asim, Rasheed and specially Rajeesh all bowled tight spells with great line and length and Gulf CC were all out for 219 in 36overs.

Saipem in chase lost Abdul Rahiman early followed by Sarwar and Babar but skipper Nishant, a man on a mission kept scoring freely at the other end. Nishant found good support in Ameen(25) first and then in Pramodh (34) and brought Saipem close to yet another convincing win. In the course of leading from front and taking Team Saipem ship to safe shores Nishant (94) came inches close to a personal mile stone of scoring 3 hundreds in 3 consecutive matches but unfortunately fell 6 runs short. Nevertheless this his master class Innings insured Saipem won the match by 4 wickets in just 31overs.

A Viking once said ” Be strong when you are weak, be brave when you are scared…..and be humble when you are victorious!!

How far did the Vikings go one may never know but how far Team Saipem will go this winter……..stay tuned to know!!
